Title

[D8905AJF], Letter from S H Staite to Thomas Alva Edison, December 5th, 1889

Editor's Notes

Sutton Cheney Vicarage Hinckley England Dec. 5th 1889 Dear Sir; You were so very good last year as to give me a duration in account of my late fathers' work in electric lighting, which I [ascertained?] to bring under your notice. My aged mother now past 80 was very much relieved by the assistance I was there [-------] to give her. Twice then I expect to say my increase has been reduced to under 150 pounds per annum through faill in [-----] & I scarecely know where to call for help in this very poor & [in----] district. Of the several appeals I made at the time the [---] one who [severely exceeded?] was yourself. I fear my writing to you again may seem like trying to impose on your good nature, but [---] care (entire loss of fortune through [---] [power?] factions failure to attain his ends by his preventative decrease) being an exceptional services one for myself & family of nine children [--] there hard times for clergyman urges me to venture this once to ask your kind sympathy if a little further kind assistance be possible with [------] expressions of gratitude. Believe me, dear sir, Yours [sincerely?] S.H Staite
