- Editor's Notes
- Orange Dec. 6 1889 Dear Tate Mr. [Sertt?] of the Century Co. asked me to bring to Mr. Edison's attention the enclosed invitation which has been sent Mr. Edison. He says the affair is one of importance and will be wildly commented on. The publishers desire Edison to come out of compliment to the French Nation as in no other way can. They emphasize the welcome given more than by Edison's presence. He wants if Edison cannot be present a telegram of regret from him if possible with a word of sympathy for authors from an invention. He says that authors are denied the rights granted inventors and the rights granted inventors and the latter should lend a word at least. Can you not arrange it to have Edison telegraph yours Francis R. Upton
