Editor's Notes

Dear Sir: I should herewith duplicate proofs together with the original [?] kindly revise one copy of the proof sheets and return to us at the earliest moment our articles are not paragraphed. ## Concerning steel plate portrait I have to say that a wood cut would not be of any desiree as we could not use it in a volume illustrated with steel plates only. It occurs to me that Mr Edison would find frequent and abundant use for a five steel plate portrait; and if he will consider the propriety of having one, he would make a fine portrait, at half price, [?] 175 our usual price for such work being 350. The plate would be his property, we simply [?] the [?] number of [?] for our value price before delivering the plate in perfect [?] to him. Furthermore, if he [?] to this [?] we would print and send him complimentary, 50 artist proof [?] (first [?]) from the plate; then print our edition and then deliver the plate, ou receipt of which, together with the 50 artist proofs above mentioned he would pay us 175. Of you think it worth wile to present this [?] to him and the considers it favorable, I will send you samples of our 350 portraits from which to select the style desired. ## The engraving could be from any photograph you many have. The large panel photography if a satisfactory [?] would answer.
