[is an invitation in French with an enclosed translation that is as follows:] Pasteur, the French scientist, sends a circular requesting TAE to become a member of the society for the assistance of friends of science. The object of the society is to help poor scientists when troubled by sickness or old age, to assist their families, widows and chidlren. # Ordinary members pay $2.00 a year; by once paying $40.00 or by paying this amount in four annual sums of $10.00 perpetual membership is obtained. # [also includes enclosure providing information in French on the society] [marginalia: send $50]
