Title
[D8920AAW], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Samuel Insull, July 23rd, 1889
Editor's Notes
First as to my interview with Leyland: He conceived the idea that I was sounding him as to the probability of his joining Mr. Edison and his remarks about a syndicate and the examination of all patents indicated, if not his willingness to do so, at least his inclindation to consider such a propisition. He didn't get this idea from anything I said because it was only suggested to me by his own remarks, after he had been referred to Gouraud in a way to indicate his mistrust of him and disinclination to deal with him. Second as to Gouraud establishing a legitimate agency business, I hold the opinion that this is impracticable because he hasn't the inclination or intention to do so and would not give it the amount of energy, attention, and aggression necessary to ensure its success and because it requires money to handle it which he does not possess. He has difficulty in enlisting capital to purchase rights.
