- Editor's Notes
- Enclosed please find the letter from "American notes and Queries" about the new word for putting to death by electricity. I have gone into the matter more fully than set forth in Mr. Lewis' recent letter. The Greek word which is the exact equivalent is "electrothanatos," or "electrothanasia." Their precise meaning is death by electricity. ####On the whole "electricide" is the best word. There is a Latin word "electrum" derived from the Greek "elektron". Putting the two Latin words together, to wit, "electrum" and "caedo" to kill, we get "electricide" death by electricity. It seems to me that this is the word most likely to go into popular use.####I have suggested to Mr. Lewis to put a mem. In some paper about these words, and possibly he may have an interview in the "Sun" within a day or two.
