Editor's Notes

Referring to the prices of coal for steam, we can not give you such figures now [for reasons before mentioned] as we think you will want, to contract at; in fact, at this time can not make you price beyond [------]soft coal. On hard coal, prices at mines subject to the contingencies of transportation and mining [i.e] strikes and fluctuations in freights from mines to Buffalo and Niagara Falls, which are always the same in these days.####We will make you Anthracite [---] coal at 95 cents at the breaker, and Grate at $1.90 per gross ton. Present rate of freight to Niagara Falls is $2.00 per gross ton, making [P&A?] $2.95 and Grate $3.90, equal to $2.83 & $3.48 respectively per net ton of 2000 lbs. This price is for one year, subject to above named conditions. We do not look for any material advnace in freight from mines to Niagara Falls.####On Soft coal, we will make you price of $1.80 per net ton at Buffalo, up to May 1st; this is as long as we an make you a price on soft coal at present, but as before stated, we think later on in the winter, we can fit you out on that coal (if you prefer soft coal) for a year. This price is based on about the quanitty you mentioned we would like to figure with you when you get down to business, and want to contract, as we feel satisfied that we can give you satisfaction, as regards quality & price.####Yours truly, W.H Davis & Co.####[name mentions: W.H Davis & Co., Niagara Falls, Charles B> Gaskill, Buffalo
