Title
[D8943AAC], Letter from Harry Ward Leonard to Thomas Alva Edison, October 25th, 1889
Editor's Notes
[AC/DC; DC EFFICIENCY] "Have been figuring over the question of comparative cost of the two, three, four, five six and seven wire systems and beg to forward you here with tabulated statement of the conclusions to which I have come. ## I think the table will be self-explanatory. I have assumed all neutral wires of the same size as the outside wires. ## If my figures are correct the additional complication of the five-wire system does not seem to be justified by the saving. If we could use 155 volts lamps on the three-wire system, it would be as cheap as 100 volt lamps on the five wire system, and we could operate at any loss desired, without difficulty as to regulation. ## If the results do not seem sufficently clear, or appear to be incorrect, should be pleased to have you critizie them."[TABLE FOLLOWS SHOWING COMPARATIVE COSTS AND ELECTRRICAL LOSSES]
