Title
[D9004AFW], Essay, Thomas Alva Edison, October 1890
Editor's Notes
This set of notes that Edison provided to George Parsons Lathrop for their proposed book "Progress." Two of them have red pencil annotations by Lathrop. They likely date from October 1890. The book was never published but Lathrop later published two versions of a serialized story based on their collaboration. The first version was published in American newspapers between 13 December 1896 and 3 January 1897 as “In the Deep of Time” [PA109]. A slightly different version with alternative illustrations was published in the February and May 1897 issues of the English Illustrated Magazine [PA126]. The editors have published these as five individual notes [PA3001 to PA3002] in PA3-F, Manuscript essays, articles, and speeches by Edison.
