Sir William Thomson
Glasgow Scotlandfff
My Dear Sir William
I have from the time I sent to you some of my early incandescent lamps for a laboratory test and for your domestic use, felt assured of your lively interest in the success which attended my experiments, and in the progress of lighting by the high renaissance multiple arc lamps I believe therefore, that you will value the accompanying volume which I beg of you to add to your private library, containing the record of recent litigation in the U.S. Courts on the filament lamp.
I expect that the already long list of claimants for the honor of making lighting by incandescence a practical reality, will be still further increased as time goes by. Here in these volumes however, we have, as far as pertinent in America, the sworn testimony eye witnesses taken when memories are fresh.
Please accept these books with the assurance of my cordial personal regard, and with my hearty congratulations upon your elevation to the peerage.
Faithfully yours
Thomas A. Edison
