Dec. 23, 1892.
Alfred M. Mayer, Esq.,
No. 938 Hudson Street,
Hoboken, N.J.
Dear Sir:-
Mr. Edison has received your letter of the 12th instant, and in reply directs me to say that he will be very pleased to loan you one of his perfected phonographs and such other appliance as you may require in the work upon which you are engaged and to which you refer in your latter. Mr. Edison suggests that if you have time it might be well for you to call and see our Mr. Ballou at the Phonograph Works, Orange, and explain to him just the kind of an instrument you want. The 1888 phonograph, with double spectacle, Mr. Edison says is the best for experimenting with.
Mr. Edison’s absence caused the delay which has occurred in replying to your letter.
Yours truly,
Private Secretary.
