31 Nassau St. New York Jan 20th 92 Received Jan 21 1892 Ans’d Jan 27 1892 Mr. Thos A. Edison Orange N.J. Dear Sir In answer to your favor of 16th inst I have to say that I am advised that 35¢ per ton of concentrate and 45¢ per ton of ore shipped not concentrated with a insurance payment of 5 dollars per year would be fair times for a lease of the Ferrothill mines. The lease to be at liberty to surrender the lease upon due notice. If these terms do not meet your views, please indicate what your views are. The lay and location of the property are exceedingly favorable for mining and transportation of ore. The mine could be started on shipping ore at once. Yours truly M. Standish [TAE Marginalia] Concentrating ore down as low as 20% will not permit the payment of any such royalties and concentrating narrow streaks of 35 @40 pct wouldn’t pay of no royalty was asked at all-There must be considerable width permitting open cutting to make it pay at your rare the royally would be equal to 2 or 3 dollars per ton at the vein proper-E
