[TAE Marginalia] say we have tried such an arrangement not works well but Will Co will not delay them
Febry 23rd 1892
Thos A. Edison
Orange N.J.
Dear Sir:-
With a perfected long distance telephone will it not be possible by dictating to the phonograph revolving say fifty times a minute-to transmit matter by wire four or five times as fast-speed to be reduced for transcribing-such a combine could wire one thousand words per minute.
The action of diaphragms over reproducing point is positive and impulses carried by wire from phonograph records are much stronger than are those from the wire direct.
If no great difficulty his in the way would not such an arrangement be simpler than the whetstone telegraphic system? Considering the preparatory work in offices at both ends of a line.
Very truly yours
Whitfield Stinson
