New York City, Jan. 28, 1892.
Dear Mr. Edison:
Welch v Edison. This case has gone over until June. Notwithstanding your last authority given in to settle at an increased sum, we have not done so. Possibly we may use that authority before June, and shall do so without consultation with you unless you notify us to the contrary.
This is a case which we can probably win, just as we could have won the Tomlinson case if we had not been stopped. But the less of your time in hanging around the Court Room in Boston and the expense of taking Ingersoll to Boston, also the expense of Lewis and Hale to say nothing of the possible uncertainty of the result appertaining to Litigation, makes it perhaps wise to settle.
Very truly yours,
[Signed: S.B Eaton]
