- My dear Mama, My letter this time will have a somewhat different tone than my last. I am not happy with Aunt Janie but have said nothing as yet to her about it but I thought it would be better to ask you first whether I had better make a change or not. Yesterday all day she treated me very unkindly and by evening I resolved to go with the girls the next day but I thought of the advise once one gave me to always take two or three days to think any thing or action over and of course when she is cooled down she can think better. I have taken that advice but after that even I do not think we could live happily together. I do not dislike Aunt Jennie any the more because she treats me unkindly. I [like?] her from the bottom of my heart, one [timely? Truly?] is unforunate what has been given such a disposition. You knew more about her than I did. I do not know how you could have thought for a moment that we could have gotten along happily. It has only been a [confimeation?] of such incidents as happened the night before we came away, do you remember? It was about that needle that I borrowed. Yesterday she postively insulted me before the firsl and Mlle. The only thing I think of is that my going with the girls will break into their daily routine, besides they do not seem very anxious to have me, of course they have not said any thing but actions speak louder than words. I wish Mrs. Earle could take me NOW because I kno I shall have the feeling all summer that they would rather not have me with them, of course this is said in the closest confidence and I know I can trust you. Mama I am not contented, I would say happy bit I am seldom that. I feel that I am alone over here without a friend. With love, Marion
