However it is perhaps best that Bells patent be sustained because if left open to the public(?) it might damage us . . . The new receiver is such an enormous advance in telegraphy. . . In fact with the carbon transmitter and this receiver we have control of telephony for the future, so be careful . . . (expts with light)
