Editor's Notes

[C] Dynamos - Breakage of wire binding round armature Edison found that the wire used for binding the armature would oftentimes break at the point where the ends of same are soldered. He discovered that the cause of the trouble is the extreme strength of the field which attracted the wire binding towards it (the field) with such force as to often cause it to snap. In the case of machines already built this difficulty is worisome by [-----] underneath the wire binding (between it and the parchment covered bars) 1/100 inch wire and thus turning up the end of the binding wire about 1/16 inch and then securely soldering the whole together I give you below a sketch of how it is done In the case of building new Armatures Dean used a pair of bars about an inch wide over which he winds the binding wire and then when the binding is finished he turns on the two [wires] of the brass until they meet and [roughly] [solder] the whole making a [hook] of it and of the binding wire.##Sometime back you wrote for date as to small machines. It has taken some time to [collect] but I hope the [enclosed] will not be too late for your purpose
