Title
[LB015342], Letter from Samuel Insull to Sherburne Blake Eaton, February 23rd, 1883
Editor's Notes
On applying for payment of the weekly Laboratory Statement today Mr Allen informed me that he could not pay it as Mr Hastings is away & left no checks for current purpose. we have to finance so [very] close that this will cause me great trouble to meet our Pay Roll. I think you should know of this as there can hardly be any excuse for not having a check signed to meet a bill that is presented every week.##Mr Upton will have to suffer also in consequence of Mr Hastings absence. He wanted to pay the Lamp Co taxes today & asked Mr Allen for a check on account of bills rendered. by not being able to get a check the Lamp Co will be fined $20 for nonpayment of taxes by a certain time.##Of course if we [could] "flush" such difficulties would not be of much consequence as we have always demands against us before we get our money such delays are very serious##At the moment it looks as if I shall have to let the Pay Roll stand over till monday a thing that has not occurred [text missing]
