Title
[LB016405], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to Emil Rathenau, May 22nd, 1883
Editor's Notes
I have received from the Secretary of the Committee of the Elektrotnischer, [hesein], a notice that my application for membership to that society has been received.##I am very much obliged to you for transmitting my application to the Society through Dr. Siemans.##Mr Batchelor during his recent visit here told me that he thought that you would be willing to write me occasionally on the progress of Electric lighting in germany; if not troubling you to much to do so I shall esteem it a very great favor.##Our business here is progressing wonderfully. In New York our Central Station has been working very successfully ever since September 4th of last year from which date current has been in our mains continually.##We are doing a very large isolated business all throughout the United States and just recently we have started a new Department, viz: the lighting of small towns and villages using from 1000 to 3000 lights. This department of our work also promises to be a perfect success.
