- Editor's Notes
- Referring to the paragrph in your letter to Mr. Edison of this date in reference to telephones, I would say that the device Major Eaton spoke to you about is for the purpose of enabling a subscriber to intimate to the Central Exchange the person he wishes to talk to without exchanging any conversation whatever with the people in the Exhange. By simply turning a switch a subscriber throws his "drop" in the Telephone Exchange and at the same time exposes the number of the subscriber he wishes to speak to If you care to look into the matter and will write to the inventor of the device (which is very small and cheap) Mr [TGH. MacKenzie, [Yamerwell] Fire Alarm Co. 2 1/2 Barclay St. New York he will doubtless give you all the information on the subject you may desire.
