Title

[LB017118], Letter from Samuel Insull to Paul D Dyer, June 8th, 1883

Editor's Notes

I have your letter of the 7th inst. Mr Edison says that you must finish Utica according to his instructions before you leave there; of course you must consult Mr A. B. Johnson personally about the districts selected by the Company but it is Mr Edison's intention to decide on the exact district after he gets your canvas. He says the local Company cannot pretend to do so as they know nothing of our business. If you stick to Mr Edisons directions minutely in every town you come to you will come out solid. The trouble has always been that the canvassers heretofore have taken no notice of what he told them. Notify me how soon you can go to Erie. Have you taken in a district which you think would conform to Mr Edison's ideas. I have not ordered the forms for you as I desire that you should have some experience at this business before deciding on a different form. When you think you have got far enough to be able to know exactly what you want I will order the forms.##After you have done the places which I gave you a list of before you started, you have got to go to Renous, Pa: where you will see Mr J. H. Furgeson, and to Cantorsville Md., where you will see Mr J. A. Garey - as these two towns are in Mr Clark's territory please consult him about them when you see him in Erie. After you have got through with these you will have to go to Moravia, N.Y. where you will see Mr Parker.##I forgot to take a list of the towns I gave you. Please send me by return a list of same.
