[LB017179], Letter from Samuel Insull to Edison Electric Light Co, Frank Seymour Hastings, August 5th, 1883
Editor's Notes
Re order for [10] machines of following sizes 25, 50 & 300 Lights.##The above order I think covers from $13,000 to $45000 of work but this is only a guess. we cannot tell exactly until models are made. But for present purposes assume it to be $14000 of work. How would terms of payment as follows suit you:##One third on Isolated Stock 4666.66##5/12 to be paid in weekly instalments starting either three or four weeks from date of order 5833.33##Balance 3500.00##$14000.00##The balance ($3500.00) to be cleared off by a Sixty days note when the machines are all delivered.##If the delivery takes place before the weekly payments are all made we to have the option to take a sixty days note for the balance of cash still to be paid at the time the Delivery is completed.##These terms are better for the Isolated Co than those we agreed on for the 100 Light machines which were 1/3 on Isolated Stock & 2/3 cash on delivery of machines. On this order also we shall possibly be able to help you out by taking part of the 2/3 in Paper running 60 days, but as to this I will talk with you when I get back from William[sport]##I wish I could be in N.Y. tomorrow so as to be present at your Conference with major Eaton & Mr Hutchinson so that I could explain to major Eaton as I have to you that notwithstanding that we are worse off for money that we have been at very previous time it is our desire to meet the Isolated Co by giving them time on machines by using their paper as far as possible. After the Edison Isolated Stock is paid for we shall doubtless be able to do this to a far greater extent than we can at the present time##Would you mind showing this to Major Eaton
