- Editor's Notes
- I have your favor of 23rd May with relation to the running of the Santiago Station. In it you ask for seven ampere indicators for "K" dynamos indicating up to 300 sixteen candle lamps, which would be about 400 ampires: and 5 feeder indicators up to 500 lamps. Now, the "K" dynamos which you have, cannot carry much above 200 amperis, therefore I cannot understand why you require indicators which will indicate 400 amperis. In a Central Station (two wire system) you only require one ampere indicator unless you desire an ampere indicator on each dynamo to show what portion of the load each machine carries. The feeder indicators indicate volts and not amperes. Furthermore I do not understand why you require five indicators when you only have two feeders, and inasmuch as you are only using the two wire system, I cannot see how it is possible for you to require more than two feeder indicators. Furthermore I am not at all sure whether you want feeder indicators or feeder regulators; that is, whether you want to indicate the pressure or whether you want to keep it normal by pressure regulators.##If you want to indicate the pressure your indications will be of little use unless you can also regulate it, and if you want to regulate the pressure you will be unable to do this unless you have feeder indicators or something to take their place. What I think you require is two feeder indicators and one feeder regulator or Equalizer.##The reason you only require one feeder regulator is that you get your normal pressure on one feeder and then throw in resistance or take it out to Equalize the pressure on the first feeder which you keep normal as above stated.##If after these explanations you still desire me to fill your order for seven ampere indicators and five feeder indicators please telegraph me the word "Ampere." If you desire seven ampere indicators, two feeder indicators and one feeder regulator please telegraph me the word "Indicator." If you require one ampere indicator, two feeder indicators and one feeder regulator please telegraph me the word "Regulator: These telegrams can be sent without any signature.##Awaiting your further advice in the matter I am
