Referring to your favor of 30th ult you seemed to have overlooked the fact that your Company is still indebted to me & that after deducting $70 on Depreciation & $225 on engine you still owe me $405.98 as per enclosed statement.##The order for the Dynamos was given through me as was also the order for the engine but at the time your Committee was in New York I stated that I would order the above for [them] in order to enable your Company to get the advantage of my prices but that in as much as I would make no profit on either the Dynamos or engines your Company would have to settle direct for them & on the same terms that I was in the habit of doing:- Cash.##I feel confident you must be in error as to the deductions on engines & Dynamos being credited on your bill from Edison Machine Works as I distinctly recollect that the two amounts in question were looked upon at the time Your Committee were here as part liquidation of my accounts to which they naturally belonged. Furthermore it is my invariable will to keep my own personal business entirely separate from that of the Edison Machine Works which as a manufacturing Establishment stands entirely by itself which makes me the more positive that I could not have undertaken to liquidate part of their bill in the way you state.##I trust that you will settle the Edison Machine Works account immediately (I understand you have already sent a remittance on account) in as much as they supplied the machines to you upon my assurance that you would pay on delivery which was my understanding with your Committee
