Referring to your favor of 15th inst in reply to "application no 2953 I beg to state that I have not, so far as I can remember, requested space at your exposition##I have within the last few years spent from $65,000 to $75,000 in exhibiting my inventions at various Expositions and in as much as I gain no pecuniary advantage by so doing I have been compelled to refuse to make [Exhibits] unless expenses are defrayed by Exposition Authorities##If your management desire an exhibit from me I shall be glad to loan my collection of Instruments provided the expenses of shipment & return, the erection of the exhibit and the expenses of one of my assistants are guaranteed me.##Of course you understand that my exhibit is a Scientific one simply showing the collection of my inventions & had no financial benefit to me
