Title

[LB022172], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Thomas Pike, June 7th, 1886

Editor's Notes

Your letter of 21st. ult. was forwarded to me at Philadelphia. ## In the matter of your expenses I would explain that the settlemetn fo you a/c has been overlooked owing to my protracted absence from the City. The work of putting phonoplex matters in shape has been rather uphill as I have had at the same time to conduct experiments, and install circuits outside of New York. ## Upon receipt of this I wish you would write me giving the details of your last expense a/c, and showing total amount due you, and I will have a check sent you at once. I fear I have mislaid some of your vouchers, and ask for a statement of a/c in order that the full amt. due you may be Sent. ## In relation to Quad tests; I made the last experiment yesterday between New York and Philadelphia and operated the Phone with perfect success, while both sides of each end of quad were working. Connections are made like this:-- [diagram] Our additions to quad connections are shown in red. ## If you are going to work a long distance you may find it necessary to use two [word underlined] induction coils in series with eight cells of battery thus:-- [diagram] This will double the sounds. ## We will do nothing at present relative to the material we have in Canada. If there are any further explanations you require write me and I will be glad to make them. # We are doing good work over here. Yours faithfully
