Title
[LB025405], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Samuel Insull, November 5th, 1888
Editor's Notes
In the Gouraud contracts, China and Japan are excepted. We ought also to have made an exception of Corea, as the business in this latter country should be handled by the persons who undertake the Japanese and Chinese business. I do not believe Gouraud would raise any objection if we were to except Corea now. Would it not be well to have it mentioned in the new form of contract Major Eaton is preparing? I am sure it was that intention of Mr. Edison to have Corea worked in connection with Japan, and at the time the present contract was drawn it was probably considered that Japan included Corea. As you know, there is a well founded doubt upon this latter point, and to avoid any possible conflict I make the above suggestion.
