- "I desire to ascertain the exact state of Mr. Edison's phonograph patents in Canada, and how soon it will be necessary for me to commence manufacturing there. For how many years from the date of the patents can we import without prejudice to our patents [unclear], and if there are number of patents on the phonograph, which one of these is the proper one to date from with respect to calculating the length of time during which we can send phonographs into Canada?
