Title
[LB027664], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Samuel Insull, January 9th, 1889
Editor's Notes
"I notice that certain newspapers have connected my name with an alleged explanation of the scheme of the new Edison General Electric Company. In order that there may be no misunderstanding as to hw far I am responsible for these reports, I wish to inform you that a report for some Newark paper, the name of which I cannot remember, came to the Laboratory one day with a report of a consolidation which included the Machine Works, the Lamp Co., Bergmann & Co., the Light Co., Edison Phono. Works and the Edison Laboratory. I did not consider it right to have the Phonograph Works mixed up in the report, and I told the reporter that the Phonograph Works had nothing to do with it, and that Mr. Edison's Laboratory was his private property. I would not give him any information in regard to the rest of his report, and am not responsible for any part of it. I want you to understand this in case any person should mention it to you [following added by hand] and connect me with it." Yours very truly, AO Tate
