- Editor's Notes
- "In reference to your letter of 26th ult., I beg to say that your name was mentioned to Mr. Edison by Mr. Henry Villard in a note written by the latter under date 7th December, 1887. At that time Mr. E.T. Gilliland was the Gen’l Agent for the Edison Phonograph Co., and Mr. Edison referred to him your letter to Mr. Villard, as you will see by copies of correspondence attached hereto. The phonograph, as you are aware, eventually passed into the hands of the North American Phonograph Co., with whose policy Mr. Edison has nothing whatever to do. He would have been very glad if those who control the merchandising of the phonograph had been able to set upon the suggestion which he made to Mr. Gilliland in your behalf." Yours very truly, A.O. Tate
