Title
[LB028437], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Cornelius J Field, Edison Electric Illuminating Co (Brooklyn), February 28th, 1889
Editor's Notes
"Mr. Edison has received your letter of 27th instant, in regard to endorsing your friend, Mr. Birdsall for the position of Instructor in Electricity at Columbia College. I explained to Mr. Birdsall this morning that Mr. Edison had already endorsed Mr. S. S. Wheeler for this position and had written some very strong letters to Mr. Wheeler and Prof. Trowbridge. He cannot, therefore, consistently endorse anyone else for the same position, as such action would simply negative both endorsements and do neither Mr. Wheeler nor your friend, Mr. Birdsall, any good. I think that Mr. Birdsall understands Mr. Edison’s position thoroughly, as I took pains to explain it very fully to him." Yours very truly, A.O. Tate
