- Editor's Notes
- "I believe that you have in your possession the contracts between Col. Geo. E. Gouraud and Mr. Edison. I enclose herewith copy of a letter to Col. Gouraud from Mr. Edison which should be attached to these contracts, as it is really an interpretation of that portion of the contracts referred to which provides that Col. Gouraud shall do nothing to imperil or shorten the lives of Mr. Edison’s U.S. patents on the phonograph. It became necessary for us to instruct Col. Gouraud in this manner, for the reason that he either could not or would not comprehend the way in which the law of this country with respect of patents is interpreted by the Courts of the United States. The correspondence leading up to the letters attached is all on file in this office. I do not think it necessary to place any of it, excepting the annexed letters, with the contracts." Yours truly, A.O. Tate
