- "I have shown Mr. Edison the correspondence enclosed with your letter to me under date 26th inst., and he says that if you prefer making a contract on the basis of a royalty of $20.00, per set, per annual, for the use of the phonoplex system, he will agree to the arrangement, in view of Mr. Gilliland's proposition to you under date November 10th, 1885. It is, of course, understood that this arrangement is a special one and the contract confidential. You have in your possession copy of our regular contract, and I would suggest that you change it to conform to our later agreement, or if you prefer, I will have new contracts prepared in this office."
