- Title
- [LB029442], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to William Dennis Marks, May 17th, 1889
- Editor's Notes
- "I have received your letter of 8th instant, and beg to secure you that you have my sympathy in your endeavors to bring the Edison Electric light prominently and permanently before the public of Philadelphia. I very much fear, however, that the method which you suggest would not accomplish your object, but would result in a very speedy destruction of your literature. My judgment may be blinded by my modesty, but as I cannot give advice which is opposed to my convictions, and as my convictions in this case do not harmonize with your proposition, it is impossible for me to consistently give my consent." Yours very truly, [signed] TAE
