- "Replying to your letter of 8th inst., I beg to say that we [made? ]very [masterful?] experiments with the phonograph. In [unclear] [unclear] of the [unclear]. For a physician to make use of this method, it could be very desirous for him to have a [unclear] phonograph. I have a very small machine, which you made for my own use, by hand, but it is the only one in existence, and just as present we are not prepared to make these in our [unclear]. This is the kind of machine which the gentleman you name, [unclear] but as I have [unclear] it is not practicable to supply them at the present time."
