Title
[LB033239], Letter from Edison Phonoplex System, Alfred Ord Tate to Harry A Tuttle, North American Telegraph Co, October 24th, 1889
Editor's Notes
Your letter of 16th instant has been duly received. ### Mr. Edison is at present experimenting with the phonoplex, with the view of giving us 50 miles extra on a straight circuit; he is also getting up a repeater for us, which will make the distance over which we can operate practically unlimited. We expect that these experiments will be finished in the course of a couple of weeks, and as your circuit is so long as to make it doubtful whether we could operate it successfully, we think it would be very much better to defer Mr. Logue's visit to you until Mr. Edison had finished his work. We would then be able to take hold of the matter with every prospect of carrying it through successfully. This in our opinion is preferable to commencing now with every probability of encountering difficulties which we would be unable to overcome. Very truly yours, EDISON PHONOPLEX SYSTEM OF TELEGRAPHY By A.O. Tate
