Title
[LB034157], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to J D Condict, November 22nd, 1889
Editor's Notes
Referring further to your letter of 12th instant, Mr. Edison says that the sample which you left at the Laboratory is a mixture of oxidized hydrocarbon and supphurized hydrocarbons. It could be used in considerable quantity, if cheap enough, for our underground tube material. He does not see what other use it would have for insulating purposes. We should be compelled to tin our wires to prevent action of sulpheur. Ordinary coal tar can be turned into the same character of material by heating with sulphur and oxide-manganese. At how much per ton could this material be delivered at New York? Yours truly, A.O. Tate
