Samuel Insull, Esq.,
No. 44 Wall Street, New York City
Dear Sir:-
In the first interview which I had with Mr. Cheever, in regard to the "Nickel Slot" business, I told him that Mr. Edison would not consent to turn over his invention for a period longer than five years, and in explanation of this, I said, that Mr. Edison made it a rule not to agree to give inventions to any corporation for a period longer than that; that it was a matter which would not admit of discussion, as the rule was applicable throughout all Mr. Edison's business. You will require this information for Major Eaton, in connection with the preparation of the agreements, which I understand are now in the Major's hands.
Yours very truly,
A.O. Tate
