Confirmation of
Telephone message from Mr. Butler to Mr. Insull, received at the Laboratory April 3rd, 1890.
Colonel is very anxious that you should prevail upon Mr. Edison to be present at the dinner this evening .
He wishes you to make it a personal matter, in order that Mr. Edison may speak into the Phonograph which Gouraud proposes to present Mr. Gladstone, when he gets back to the other side. The Phonograph message has never been acknowledged to Mr. Gladstoone and me. (Colonel Gouraud), thinks that if Mr. Edison speaks into the machine, and the machine afterwards handed over to the GRAND OLD MAN, it would be an easy way out of what looks like neglect.
There will also be a message spoken into the Phonograph by General Sherman. What shall I say to the Colonel?
