April 17th 1890 A. Raht, Esq., P.O. Box 467, Helena, Montana. Dear Sir:- Mr. Edison is much obliged for the samples of Sapphire enclosed with your letter of 7th instant. These samples, however, are not clear enough for Mr. Edison's purposes. They are full of flaw. If you could furnish Mr. Edison with clear sapphire, he is willing to pay you one dollar an ounce for it. It is not necessary that the samples should be gems, but it is absolutely essential that they should be clear, and free from flaws. Yours very truly, A.O. Tate Private Secretary
