January 24, 1891. C. H. Adams, Esq., #502 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, Pa. Dear Sir:- Your letter of 23rd instant is at hand, and in reply I beg to inform you that Mr. Edison has a man in his employ named [REED?]. Mr. Edison knows nothing about this man’s actions in outside matters: his duties in Mr. Edison’s business are confined to the Ore Milling Department. He was not authorized by Mr. Edison to make any examination of your Printing Telegraph machines, and if he did [so?] it was done entirely on his own responsibility, Mr. Edison [having?] no knowledge whatever of the matter. Mr. Edison is not now interested in Printing Telegraph machines, and is not desirous of inspecting those of your Company. Yours very truly. A. O. Tate Private Secretary.
