January 29, 1891. Thomas Butler, Esq., Edison Building, Broad St., New York. Dear Sir:- Referring to the copy of Mr. Insull’s letter of Sept. 29th, 1890 to Mr. Edison, which you handed to me the other day, Mr. Edison says that the assignments of patents to the Western Union Tel. Co. were never handed to him. He says there are a great many of these and they would make a very large bundle. Insull's letter referred to above never passed through this office. The papers must either be in the hands of Messrs. Dyer & Seely or in Mr. Insull's. If these papers came out here they must have been brought by a messenger, but I cannot imagine to whom they could have been delivered, as Mr. Edison himself knows nothing about them. Yours very truly, AO Tate Private Secretary.
