Referring to my letter to you under date 11th instant, in which I stated that I had instructed Mr. Tate to obtain certain information in regard to the number of phonographs in the hands of local Companies, I find the situation to be as follows:
Total number of Phonographs shipped by the E. P. W. upon orders of the N. A. P. Co. to local Companies.: 7,202
Less Phonographs returned by local Companies and in store at E. P. W. at the present time.: 2,140
Number of Phonographs in hands of local Companies. 5,062
Number of Phonographs under rental throughout the United States as per report of Mr. Lombard, Vice-President, N. A. P. Co.: 2,800
Number of Phonographs lying idle in hands of local Companies. 2,262.
Of the Phonographs under rental, Mr. Lombard states that about 470 appear to be employed with automatic-nickel devices.
Yours very truly,
