February 24, 1891.
Henry Villard, Esq.,
Mills Building, New York.
Friend Villard,-
On my return to the Laboratory this morning I found your letter of 20th instant. I will try and visit New York some day this week as you desire.
Regarding the transferring of power spoken of in the “Frankfurter Zeitung” article, translation and synopsis of which accompanied your letter under reply, there is no difficulty in doing it; but the use of the alternating current instead of the direct current is unworthy of practical men. The distance also is so great that it has only a sentimental interest. The interest and maintenance would exceed twice over the cost of local engine and coal.
Yours very truly,
Thos A. Edison
