February 25, 1891.
A. D. Perry, Esq.,
#32 Wellington St. East,
Toronto, Canada.
Dear Sir:-
Mr. Edison has received your letter of 21st instant and asks me to say in reply that up to the present time the Storage Batter has not proved a commercial success owing to its heavy depreciation. [illegible text] the ideal Storage Battery could be realized it would provide a beautiful system for the operation of street cars, but it is as yet undiscovered, and we have therefore to fall back upon the unsightly trolley system.
Yours very truly,
A. O. Tate
Private Secretary.
