March 31, 1891. George Richards, Esq., Dover, New Jersey. Dear Sir:- Your letter of 21st instant has remained unanswered owing to the absence of Mr. Edison, who only returned to the Laboratory yesterday. In reply Mr. Edison has instructed me to say that if you will ask your men at Ogden you will find that he has been to very great expense in making surveys of the property. His men are still on this work and have it very nearly completed. You must be aware that it is not a very easy matter to make surveys in the Highlands. In addition to which, Mr. Edison found that the map furnished by the Ogden Iron Company was very much astray, and he is trying to get the thing right. As soon as this work is finished, Mr. Edison will be ready to complete the transaction. Yours very truly, (Signed A.O. Tate) Private Secretary.
