April 4, 1891. J. E. Esq., Secretary. “Exclusive Committee for Patent Celebration, No. Bill & Street, Washington, D.C. Dear Sir:- I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 31st ultimo addressed to Mr. Edison, notifying him of his appointment as an Honorary Vice-President of the Congress of Inventors and Manufacturers of Patented Inventions, to be held in Washington on April 6th, 9th, 10th, for the Celebration of the beginning of the Second Century of the American Patent System. I regret to say that Mr. Edison is at present absent from home and is not expected to return for several weeks. It will therefore be impracticable for him to attend the Patent Celebration.
