April 11, 1891. Francis R. Upton, Esq., Gen’l. Manager, Lamp Mfg. Dep’t., Edison Gen’l Electric Co., Harrison, N.J. Dear Sir:- I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 2nd instant, returning the papers with relation to the Chandler mortgage. In regard to your remark to the effect that you do not see how Mr. Edison can suffer any loss if the property is worth eleven thousand dollars, I would point out to you that the Mutual Life Ins. Co. of N.Y. holds a first mortgage on the said property, and if that Company were to sell it for the amount of their mortgage, Mr. Edison would lose the $1,000 that he has loaned on the property, and for which he holds a second mortgage. Yours very truly, (Signed A.O. Tate)
