Dear Sir:-
Mr. Edison has received your letter of 9th instant, in regard to an instrument for locating magnetic iron ore.
The instrument referred to in Mr. Edison’s letter to you of Nov. 7th, 1889, is not portable enough for ordinary use. It was designed for the purpose of locating more accurately the exact position for sinking, and it would not be valuable for rough field use. For simply locating the ore an ordinary dipping needle, to be obtained of any dealer in Surveying Instruments, is quite sufficient.
Yours very truly,
(Signed A.O. Tate)
