April 20, 1891. Edison United Phonograph Co., G.N. Morison, Esq., Secretary, New York City. Dear Sir:- Referring again to your letter of 11th instant, the copies of petitions, specifications and drawings mentioned therein, have been received at the Laboratory and have had Mr. Edison’s attention. These papers were received here in due course, but through an error were returned to the office of Messrs. Dyer and Seely and reported to you as not having been received. I regret exceedingly that the mistake occurred and trust that it has caused you no inconvenience. Mr. Edison says that patents should be taken out in Cases 886, 889, 861, 862, 895, 900, 906 & 907. Most of the inventions covered by these are embodied in the new phonograph, and in Mr. Edison’s opinion a couple of patents would cover the whole business. The petitions, specifications and drawings are being returned to you to-day by U.S Express. Yours very truly, (Signed A.O. Tate)
